A web version of this poem can be found at The Lady of Shalott.

This 1833/1842 poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson is not technically a fairy tale, but part of the Arthurian legends about Elaine and her love for Sir Lancelot. However, many paintings and images have been inspired by this story as penned by Tennyson. I have been asked at times to offer the poem as a maiden in the tower story with Rapunzel. Here it is.

Text available at Petrosinella from Giambattista Basile's Il Pentamerone.

This tale is AT-310. In this tale, a pregnant woman takes parsley to eat out of the garden of an ogress, and, caught in the act, promises the ogress to give her the child about to be born. Petrosinella is born, and the ogress takes her and shuts her up in a tower. A prince carries her off, and by virtue of three acorns the lovers escape the menace of the ogress, and Petrosinella, brought by her lover to his house, becomes the Princess. The heroine is admirable in this tale and engineers her successful escape from the tower.
